Can you do a combustion gas test to check head gasket? Do you use a testing kit?
Hello, Amber Hilton! We don’t use it because that head gasket test kit is very overrated. First, if there is exhaust gas in the cooling system (which this kit is designed to reveal), you can notice bubbles in the radiator or expansion tank in most cases. Second, exhaust gas in the cooling system is just one of many possible symptoms of a leaking head gasket. Oil can leak into the coolant, coolant can leak into oil, coolant can leak into the combustion chamber, and coolant or oil can leak outside the engine. This kit can’t help with identifying these symptoms, and you need to carefully inspect the cooling system, oil condition, engine exhaust, and external leaks to conclude about the head gasket. And that is what we do.
