Across 30 used BMW 4 Seriess we inspected, this model scores noticeably better than the typical used car we inspect — average condition 75/100 vs 61 for all cars we check. Every number on this page comes from real pre-purchase inspections — cars people were about to buy and paid an independent inspector to go through point by point, engine to underbody, paint depth to error codes. Not owner surveys, not warranty statistics, not forum lore: what we actually found.

Straight from recent BMW 4 Series reports
The 4 Series comes across as a solid used buy if you treat the engine as the make-or-break item. Oil leaks show up on half of them and cooling problems on a third, so start every look-over by checking for seepage around the motor and verifying the coolant system is tight and not overheating. Tires and a few error codes are common enough to use as bargaining chips, but walk if the leaks are heavy or the cooling is already compromised. The usual panel resprays are just typical used-car wear, not a red flag by themselves.
