Across 40 used Lexus ISs we inspected, this model scores a little below average — average condition 57/100 vs 61 for all cars we check. Every number on this page comes from real pre-purchase inspections — cars people were about to buy and paid an independent inspector to go through point by point, engine to underbody, paint depth to error codes. Not owner surveys, not warranty statistics, not forum lore: what we actually found.

How they score
What the seller might not mention — how often we find it on this model.
Share of Lexus ISs in good shape (scoring 60+/100) by mileage and by age when we inspected them (each dot ≥5 cars; rolled-back odometers excluded from the mileage curve). The dashed grey curve is all cars we check.

Straight from recent Lexus IS reports
The Lexus IS market is littered with cars that look sharper than they run. Nearly nine out of ten have at least one repainted panel, so treat every tidy exterior as a potential cover-up and demand a paint-depth check plus underbody photos before you fall for the shine. Once past the body, the real money sinks are under the hood: oil leaks and fuel-trim problems show up on more than half the cars, often paired with active codes or cooling-system neglect. Start every inspection with a cold oil-pan look, a full scan, and a tire-depth measurement; if those three light up, walk or slash the price hard enough to cover fresh rubber and a leak repair. Clean examples exist, but they are the exception—budget for engine work or keep hunting.
