The bottom line

A used Prius needs your first look at the electronics and engine: scan immediately for the active error codes that hit many of them and check underneath for oil leaks. Next inspect the tires, pressure monitors and lights, which fail often enough to use in talks. Three-quarters have a repainted panel so question any bodywork even when the structure is fine. If those problems pile up on a mediocre example, negotiate hard or walk.
