Across 45 used Toyota Tacomas we inspected, this model scores a little better than average — average condition 64/100 vs 61 for all cars we check. Every number on this page comes from real pre-purchase inspections — cars people were about to buy and paid an independent inspector to go through point by point, engine to underbody, paint depth to error codes. Not owner surveys, not warranty statistics, not forum lore: what we actually found.

How they score
What the seller might not mention — how often we find it on this model.
Share of Toyota Tacomas in good shape (scoring 60+/100) by mileage and by age when we inspected them (each dot ≥5 cars; rolled-back odometers excluded from the mileage curve). The dashed grey curve is all cars we check.

Straight from recent Toyota Tacoma reports
Expect a Tacoma to have been used hard, which shows up as oil seeping from the engine and hydraulic fluid leaking from the steering. Check those two spots first because they appear often enough to plan on finding at least one. Listen for abnormal engine noise and feel for drivetrain vibration during the test drive, and inspect the tires for wear that will need attention soon. Most examples have at least one repainted panel so examine the body and frame closely for extra work or structural repairs. Walk away from anything with obvious leaks or noises unless the seller drops the price enough to cover the fixes.
